Wow, that was a fast week! I guess it’s time to share with you some of the best articles that I’ve come across this week. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did. It seems to be a growing trend to name your weekly roundup after a particularly interesting post. I’m following suit, using Len Penzo as my inspiration. Enjoy:
Yakezie Posts
Len Penzo issued a $114,000 challenge to the government. Keep our past Social Security contributions, and let us opt-out and invest from now on!
Joe Plemon @ Personal Finance by the Book wrote a few articles on the power of the word “no”: He first gave 5 biblical reasons for using ‘no’, then he explained why he says no to cosigning and making loans, and then he advises us (especially couples) to create our “no” policies before we need them.
Crystal from Budgeting in the Fun Stuff wrote about food and the nostalgia factor. I’m sure many of us actually purchase food we don’t need (or really want), just because of the memories associated with them.
Barbara Friedberg Personal Finance had Crystal from Budgeting in the Fun Stuff write a guest post explaining why the average doctor shouldn’t have debt. This was a great post that showed that most people (from all income levels) are in debt because of their lifestyle!
Craig Ford from Money Help for Christians did a guest post for Wisebread where he shared 5 money lessons from the third world. This is the type of post that can really make you reevaluate your thinking.
David Bakke at Money Crashers gives us 5 great uses for common household items. I didn’t know about most of these, but I bookmarked the page and will be sure to use these tips!
Also, Yakezie.com went live today. Go over and check it out when you get a minute!
Other great articles
Jeff from Grocery Coupon Guide managed to eat for less than $1 a day for the last 100 days! This was his 100th-day post. You can also read my assessment of his first 30 days here.
Frugal Dad shows us how to create a stash of food in case of an emergency. We have seen so many disasters recently, and this article will show you how to prepare without spending a lot of money (or space).
A new study has been released inferring that credit card merchant fees and reward programs help to transfer wealth from the poor to the rich and from cash users to credit card users.
Man vs Debt agrees with this assessment while…
Credit Card Chaser (fellow Yakezie member) disagrees – for the record, I disagree with the researchers interpretation of this study as well.
Dink’s Finance reminds us that a college education does not always lead to a great job, but usually leads to debt! I think this is a good read for anyone not sure if they should go to college.
Xin Lu from Wisebread wrote a great article giving us some simple strategies for using leftover food. Using these simple techniques can help save over $500 a year!
J. Money from Budgets are Sexy shares a stupid financial mistake that he recently made. These types of little mistakes are so annoying, but at least we can all learn from Jay’s error. Thanks!
Brad Harmon from Marketplace Christianity asks the important question, “how will you shape your business?“, and then tells us that Christian businesses don’t exist, as part of his series “20 Entrepreneurial Lessons from Creation“. This is turning out to be a great series that can remind any Christian business owner to put God first!
Stew from Gather Little by Little also reminds us that we are to represent Christ in all of our business dealings. I love when people are willing to be ethical and operate with integrity even when it could cost them financially.
On a lighter note, a girl quit her job by taking pictures with a dry-erase board. We later learned that the pictures were fake…but it still was pretty funny!

Thanks for the mention.
Khaleef,
Thanks so much for including my “no” series in your roundup. Greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the link love. I really appreciate it. I’m glad you’re enjoying the series. It’s the first time I’ve done an extended 20 post series, but I like how it’s coming together.
Thanks so much for including BFS! Have a great week!
Thx for the shout out!
