October 2010 Blog Stats and Supporters!

I’ve noticed that a number of website owners will publish statistics about their site. I’ve always found these type of posts to be very interesting, and helpful as well.

Well, I’ve decided to follow Crystal @ Budgeting in the Fun Stuff and post my stats! But, I also want to thank those who have been very supportive of me. Therefore, I will list the top 5 commenters, top 10 referring websites, and other supporters along with my stats.

I have a plugin that keeps track of the top commenters for each month and posts the top 5 in the sidebar with a link back to their site (the link is “Do Follow“) . However, after the month is over, it resets the count.

Here are the Top 5 Commenters for the Month of October:

Of course, I would like to thank everyone who took the time to leave a comment (especially about the firefighters who let the house burn down)! Reading and responding to comments helps to make this a lot of fun for me.

Here are the traffic stats for October:

Alexa Ranking: 66,448
Visits: 3,852
Unique Visitors: 2971
Pageviews: 7486
Bounce Rate: 58.85%
RSS subscribers: 112
Twitter followers: 560
Traffic breakdown: 56.46% Referring Sites, 13.60% Direct Traffic, 24.27% Search Engines, 5.66% Other

I actually received more search engine traffic than I expected! Now I need to find a way to get more repeat visitors, more RSS and email subscribers, and a lower bounce rate!

Any suggestions?

Thanks for all of the support and links over the past month. I’d hate to see what my traffic stats would look like without all these (and other) sites linking to me!

Something else that doesn’t show up in the statistics is all of the support that I get on the various social networks. There are people who will Tweet, Digg, Stumble Upon, FB Like, Tip, Buzz, and Vote up on Reddit, just about every one of my articles!

I usually connect with them on Twitter, and they are more than willing to help out:

I do something like this on my site and I love reading other people’s updates as well. You seem to be doing a great job!

I love that you shared this info. It is always helpful as another blogger to read. I will have to look into that plug in. What system do you use to find out how many unique visitors you have per month?

Khaleef Crumbley: Hello Melissa. I used Google Analytics to get those stats. It was fairly easy to use (even I could do it), and it’s essential for doing comparisons and the like.

Really great idea on all the details. I think we may…appropriate…this idea ourselves. One of the surprisingly great things about working in the financial space is the really excellent collaboration all the webmasters have.

As far as bounce rate, did you get any good Stumbles? Those are bounce rate poison.

One other thing I’d suggest on the email subscriptions (Obviously my suggestions are based on other sites I’ve worked on since we’re just getting rolling) You might try one of the different AWeber forms for the signup. You’d be surprised when it comes to conversion how much difference different colors/graphics and so on make.

Khaleef Crumbley: Thanks for the suggestions. I am currently using Aweber, but I think that’s just one of the standard forms. I have to spend a little time on their site to look into their options. I’ll check into the other stuff you mentioned on Twitter as well. I think Lijit could be it!

Hey Khaleef- great stats! I am always happy to support your site as you always have great content!

In regards to your bounce rate question, I am guessing it is high from your social network sites like Reddit. Usually people just stop by briefly and leave. It is the catch 22. You want the traffic but it can really affect your stats.

That is just a guess though.

Reddit and Tip’d accounted for over 20% of my visitors last month, so that could be it.

Good idea! I saw Crystal’s stats the other day and think that sharing stats help bloggers (like newbies myself) understand what to shoot for in terms of goals.

I just finished a full month, but I’ll post the stats after November’s numbers are in. Should be an interesting comparison!
