Post image for CVS Shopping for the Week of 10.10.10 – Saved $43, Spent $1, Made $5

We were excited about our savings at CVS this week!  Even though we didn’t get a large quantity of items, we were able to get great deals on some quality items that we need (our gum stash was getting pretty low 8-O ), including more grocery items than usual.

So, as usual, here is a list of what we purchased – all shown in the picture above:

3 Boxes of Frosted Flakes

10 Packs of Mentos Gum

3 Bags of Brach’s Candy Corn

2 Packs of Trident Gum

1 Hand Sanitizing Spray Pen

1 Bottle of Seagrams Ginger Ale (my wife needed it to stop a coughing fit in the store)

Every item on this list was either on sale, or we had a coupon for it (except for the soda and trident) – and in many cases both! Actually, we try very hard to only purchase items that are on sale AND for which we have coupons!

That is why using the Coupon Database is so important (see below for more details), and makes it so much easier to catch great deals.

Here are the totals of how much we paid, saved, coupons used and tax paid:

Total Value – $44.78

Savings from weekly deals – $15.42

Manufacturer & CVS coupons – $17.96

Flexible Spending Account – $0

Extra Care Bucks Spent – $9.98

Total Savings – $43.36 (97%)

Subtotal – $0.34

Tax – $1.08

Total Paid – $1.42

Once again we have a shopping trip where tax was more than double our subtotal! As you can see, our subtotal was only $0.34 and we paid $1.08 in sales tax.   Overall, we only paid $1.42 for almost $50 ($44.78) worth of items!

On top of these numbers, we made $5 in ECBs for use on another shopping trip – giving us a net of $3.58! Tell me how many places you can shop and come out making money? No, really, TELL ME 8-O , we love getting deals and free items!

Highlights:

Frosted Flakes – Certain Kellogs cereals are on sale this week for 3/$10, with $5 ECB’s – making them 3/$5. As you can see in the photo, these were pretty large boxes as well!

Mentos Gum – CVS is offering these as B1G1 free. Each pack is $1.79, meaning that they are 2/$1.79 (a great deal)! In addition to this, our search on the Coupon Database made us aware of a $1 coupon.

Since CVS allows you to use a coupon on both items in a B1G1 free sale, we were able to save $2 on each $1.79 purchase – meaning that they paid us $.21 to help them clear the shelves of Mentos!!

Brach’s Candy Corn – CVS was selling these for $.99 last week – not a great deal, you can probably find them cheaper elsewhere. However, they were giving out $.99 coupons at their in-store scanner – making this free!!! We can’t really eat this, because it’s too sweet for us – but it’s free!

The only reason why we were able to still get last week’s deal was because we did our shopping on Saturday. Most CVS stores that are open 24/7 will begin the next week’s sale on Saturday (at 12 noon in our store), while still honoring the current week as well.

They also have other great sales this week, such as:

Revlon – Buy any 2 Revlon face, lip, or eye products and earn $7 ECBs! My wife saw items for less than $6 that qualify! Be sure to check our Database for Revlon coupons!

Renpure Organic Shampoo/Conditioner – B1G1 Free

Clearblue Pregnancy Test – On sale for $12.99 with $5 ECBs! This is also FSA eligible!

How to Find These Deals:

If you want to learn exactly how to spot these deals and use the Coupon Database effectively, be sure to look at the examples I give here: http://knsfinancial.com/cvs-paid-us-to-shop/

Oh, and as you can see I used my ECBs more efficiently – read about the Extra Care Buck/Tax lesson that I  learned for more detail.

CVS often has “buy one get one (B1G1) free” sales, so I’ll leave this up…

B1G1 Free at CVS:

Normally you would pay cash for an item and then get the other one free; however, when you have a B1G1 free coupon as well you are paying for the item with the B1G1 free manufacturer’s coupon and then you get the 2nd one free as normal.

Remember, CVS will be reimbursed for the face value of the coupon (plus a processing fee) by the manufacturer, so in their eyes they are not giving you both items for free!

Also, if you have 2 coupons for these B1G1 free items, you can use both of them and knock money off your entire order!

Great Job!!! When I had more free time, I would love to play the coupon game at CVS and Walgreens. I still have tons of toothpaste and toothbrushes. It is a great way to help out family members or you can plan ahead and fill a Shoe Box for the Franklin Graham ministry.

I feel the same way. We have 3 bins full of household items, and we decided to only buy what we need now. But I think we will still keep at it and just help other people who are in need!

You got all of those items for just $1. I have got to check out the coupon database.

Yeah, I ended up paying over $1 just in sales tax. My subtotal was very close to zero once again. It’s really becoming like a game to us now!

I love b1g1 at CVS!!!! Getting two free items is the best!

You did a great job this week, as usual, at CVS. Congratulations!

Thanks, we really didn’t have much to work on this week :(

I wish every store treated b1g1 this way! But until they do, CVS will be my favorite!
